ABOUT

Buchans is located in the interior of Central Newfoundland on the northwest shore of beautiful Beothuk Lake.

The community has its roots in the mining sector and for much of the last century the town was the site of one of the richest base metal mines in North America. Even today, mining continues to play a key role in the life of the community with ongoing operations of a number of mining and mineral exploration companies in the region.

At the height of its mining glory the residents thrilled to the exploits of their beloved Buchans Miners senior hockey team. Both the glory days of mining and of sports are celebrated by current and former residents alike.

The Buchans Plateau and surrounding area is a natural wonderland with pristine lakes teeming with trout and vast wilderness areas supporting trophy moose, woodland caribou, and black bear. World class snowmobiling and ATV opportunities at your back door; beautiful hiking, biking and cross country ski trails combined with breathtaking scenery all around make Buchans a outdoors person's dream.

The 600 residents of Buchans are proud of their community and welcome all new residents and visitors. Our low cost of living, K-12 school, AM Guy Memorial Health Centre, and other amenities makes Buchans an attractive place to live.
