A Rock Solid Foundation
Buchans was founded in 1927 as a base metals mining community and as such has a rich mining history. While it has been nearly four decades since the close of the Asarco operation, Buchans (and the greater Beothuk Lake area) remains a well known and significant mining jurisdiction in Newfoundland and Labrador.
BDC Mining Strategy
In 2021, the Buchans Development Corporation engaged Navigate Concepts to development a mining strategy for the Beothuk Lake region (Buchans, Millertown, Buchans Jct.). The purpose of this strategy is to better position communities and businesses in the region to benefit from adjacent mining industry development.
The Beothuk Lake Regional Mining Strategy was complete in early 2023, and has since seen the establishment of a regional task force to begin implementation of the document's recommendations. The full strategy can be viewed via the link below:
